What makes me work....
I see clothing as a kind of poetry, I am eternally fascinated by the sleeves upon which we wear our hearts.
Travel and movement are very important parts of my process. I find architecture, painting, music, people and cultural diversity very inspiring. For me, it is essential to see and experience foreign art and culture. It equips me with material and insights that spark creative thought.

Most loved exhibition spaces and galleries
It's a bit obvious. These simple ways to kick-start the brain - boards of smart people have designed the space to make the whole thing enjoyable and accessible for us. The more famous galleries I am always eager to visit include Musee D'Orsay Paris, Musee des Arts Decoratifs Paris, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Hugh Lane Dublin, the Victoria and Albert Museum London, the British Natural History Museum and Gallery, the Tate Modern London, Uffizzi Gallery Florence, The Crawford Gallery Cork, the Bauhaus Archives Berlin and MOMA New York.

Architecture
The mother of the arts! The dialogue between architecture and space, the man-made and the natural can be sublimely executed trough architecture. I believe that all good, thoughtful architecture, is a functional, habitable expression of a harmonic combination of the concepts of music, literature, theatre and fine art. Architecture is a marriage of the arts that must be physically experienced.
Photography
About eighty percent of the costume research I do for each project comes from photographs. I buy Italian vogue whenever I can for the dramatic realisation in their photoshoots and I like the sartorialist, constantly reverting to his male portriats when costuming men. You can find some samples of my own attempt at style photography on www.altoellefigaro.com
Patterns
There are patterns everywhere, both man-made and natural; a comforting reminder of the harmony which exists here. I often see something on a door, a beach or a building and I will want it printed just as it is on silk, or linen, or satin, or whatever I think it might translate well onto.
Music
Music is a true love and marks out a very important source of inspiration for me; an immense and sublime architecture of sound. This concept encourages me to strive to distill patterns and feelings in music and attempt to express them in a visual format.
